Born and raised in Osh — Kyrgyzstan's ancient southern capital, cradled between the Fergana Valley and the foothills of the Pamir-Alay — Suiunbai Odushov grew up with mountains not as scenery but as neighbours. From childhood he accompanied shepherds across summer jailoos, learning ridge names, water sources, and seasonal shortcuts that no printed map had ever recorded.
After studying geography at Osh State University, he spent the following fifteen years systematically hiking, photographing, and logging routes across every one of Kyrgyzstan's seven oblasts — from the lush walnut forests of Jalal-Abad and the red canyon landscapes of Batken, to the remote high-alpine passes of Naryn and the wind-scoured shores of Issyk-Kul. Each journey was undertaken not for sport, but with the deliberate purpose of building a living, verified archive of the country's trail network.
Along the way Suiunbai developed a close network of local guides, herders, and village elders whose oral knowledge forms the human backbone of everything published on this platform. He speaks Kyrgyz, Russian, and conversational English, and has guided small groups of international researchers and journalists who wanted genuine access beyond the tourist circuit.
His core conviction is simple: the most valuable travel knowledge in Central Asia sits in the heads of local people and deserves to be written down, translated, and shared freely — with a backpacker in Tokyo, a cyclist in Berlin, or a schoolchild in Bishkek. Every route description, elevation profile, and seasonal warning on SUIUNBAI ODUSHOV is offered without paywalls and without commercial distortion.
When he is not in the field, Suiunbai lives in Osh with his family, writes for regional geography journals, and mentors a small circle of young Kyrgyz trail documenters who are continuing this work in areas he has yet to fully map.
"A trail that no one writes down is a trail that disappears. Every ridge and every valley in Kyrgyzstan deserves to be remembered."
SUIUNBAI ODUSHOV was built on a simple conviction: the best trail guides come from people who actually walk the trails, owe nothing to anyone, and share what they find freely. These three pillars are not policies — they are the reason this project exists.
No sponsors. No advertisers. No hidden agendas.
SUIUNBAI ODUSHOV accepts no commercial relationships, affiliate deals, or sponsored placements. No brand pays to appear here, no travel agency funds our coverage, no ticket seller gets a cut. What you read is shaped by nothing except the terrain itself — and the person who walked it.
Every route personally walked or rigorously verified.
There is no desk research here, no routes assembled from old forum posts or tourist brochures. Every trail, every pass, every campsite described on this site has been walked, scrambled, or ridden by SUIUNBAI ODUSHOV — or cross-checked with local shepherds, guides, and residents who know the ground intimately. If we haven't verified it, we don't publish it.
All content is free. No registration. No paywalls. Ever.
Kyrgyzstan's mountains belong to everyone. So does information about them. Every route description, elevation profile, access note, and seasonal tip on this site is fully free and always will be. No account needed, no email address harvested, no premium tier. Open a page, read, and go — that's how exploration should work.
These commitments will never change — regardless of how popular this site becomes.
Independence, authenticity, and openness are not marketing language. They are what makes SUIUNBAI ODUSHOV worth reading.

Osh is one of Central Asia's oldest cities, nestled in the Fergana Valley at the foothills of the Pamir-Alay. It serves as the southern gateway to Kyrgyzstan's most dramatic mountain routes — including the trails featured on this site. Being based here means every route recommended comes from lived, firsthand experience of the terrain.
Personal Non-Commercial Project
SUIUNBAI ODUSHOV is run independently, with no commercial affiliation, sponsorships, or advertising. All route information is provided freely for travellers.
